Albuquerque, NM – The 2019 Cherry & Silver Scholarship Gala was held on Saturday, August 17th at the Hyatt Regency in downtown Albuquerque. Hosted by the UNM Lobo Club, this UNM Athletics signature event was presented by Frontier Restaurant and Golden Pride. The evening raised over $330,000 to benefit student-athlete scholarships and UNM Athletics with over 530 people in attendance.
“It was inspiring to see the incredible support shown for our student-athletes,” UNM Director of Athletics Eddie Nunez said. “It was a great evening that will give us momentum going into what promises to be a great year for Lobo Athletics.”
For 17 years, the Cherry & Silver Scholarship Gala has raised money for student-athlete scholarships at the University of New Mexico and has been a signature event to kick-off the academic and athletic year in Albuquerque. This year’s event was a record breaking year in many facets including dollars raised and number of attendees.
A highlight of the night’s revenues included the fund-a-need segment, dedicated to funding health and wellness initiatives for UNM student-athletes, which brought in a record-breaking total of $72,000. Enhancing our student-athlete experience by providing the best resources available is key to improving their quality of life in the classroom, in competition and as Lobos For Life.
“Our community support for our student-athletes is incredible,” UNM Lobo Club Executive Director Jalen Dominguez said. “Our staff put in a tremendous amount of work and effort to lift us to our most successful fundraising night ever.”
The evening played host to VIP Reception, silent auction, live auction, fund-a-need, dinner, and after party with live music by local band, H28.
